Baby Boomers and Gen Y

Gen X-er here and I got something to say to the two generations that surround us.

Dear Boomers: You have sucked our coffers dry with your childhood fantasies of re-enacting what your parents accomplished as the “greatest generation”. Just stop. You suck. We know it, you know it, so stop. You will never be the “Lone Ranger” with your trusty sidekick Tonto. Just knock it off already.

And Gen Y. Oh where to start. You are the biggest bunch of entitlement-minded pussies ever. You wouldn’t know a hard day’s work if it stepped on you. Guess what, you morons…you gotta prove yourself just like everyone else. I REALLY don’t give a shit if your Mom thinks you are pretty or smart. Until you prove it, you’re nothing but an insipid whiner that couldn’t find your way out of a box.

So guess what folks? Gen X is a very small generation sandwiched between two very large ones. Now, what happens when a small group has concentrated power over a larger group?

Yeah… you are all fucked.

I would highly recommend you be nice to us. Oh, and for the twenty-somethings that are reading this: I don’t expect you to understand. Isn’t there an episode of “Jersey Shore” you should be watching?

~~Grumpy Gen X-er

Well, as a “cusper”, I’m just as friggin’ annoyed by Gen X as I am by boomers. What pisses ME off the most is that I keep getting lumped in with those worthless Boomers just because I was born in 1961. Honestly, what do I have in common with some ex-hippie born in 1947? Nothing at all, that’s what!

On the other hand, you Gen X-ers trying to always make yourselves feel like you’re superior to the boomers. Let’s face it, you ain’t the solution to the problem any more than the boomers are. Get over yourselves!

Dude, boomers are just jealous they never got to play video games for a living. WIN! As for the Gen-Y crowd, I’m kinda with Grumpy. Used to have a few of them working for me. Living nightmare, let me tell ya, except for one who was a workaholic. All the rest of them wanted partial credit for crappy work. It’s like they were pissed that I wasn’t handing out trophies for eighth place. Whatever.

I haven’t seen a video game I’ve fuckin’ liked since space invaders.

what, you’re 45 and only get this stuff NOW;)?

Gen-X angst peaked in 1993.;) Today were just fodder for Zuckkids funded by Boomers.

Even the one “president” we elected , and the one “vp” we didnt…are both just fodder for the boomer/gen y “disruption” cylon soylent green force.;)

Obamas delusion is power, Palins is fame. Both will get neither in the long run. Like Jon Stewart- we dance monkey boy – dance.!

Gen x’s lot in life is to document the fall of the west.
and to keep the Brady kids on TV till the end of time.

    keep up the work…lol

I was seriously considering writing a post almost exactly like this a few days ago.

Gen X has been more mature than our Baby Boomer parents since we were born and we’re going to spend the rest of our adult lives cleaning up the messes they’ve made–emotionally, psychologically, socially, politically, economically…

And Gen Y? Yeah. We get it. You think you’re smarter than the rest of us. But you’re not. You’re actually pretty goddamn useless. KTHXBAI

One of these days I’m gonna have to write that post about managing Gen Y in the workplace. OMFG. Sorry, there are no trophies for 11th place.

Ok, you guys…I’m going to show you my ongoing research (since early 2008) on what’s actually WORKING for organizations, corporations and even micro-businesses across all 5 generations. There’s also bunches of stuff – and I’m glad to share more about what all those elements and factors are. There ARE bosses and colleagues out there of ALL ages across ALL cultures (i estimate appx 10% in corporate American, maybe more world-wide) and approximately up to 20% in smaller firms (as like quite small — usually no more than 50 staff or contractors.)

So – we can’t only be ragers and whiney folk ourselves and write the whole darned sets of generations off in one backhanded swat.

You’re going to LIKE who these folk actually turn out to be – regardless of if they created the vision, they are the ones even you (and me) count on to ENACT visions with us. And they can get that job done – consistently, competently and on time. You’re going to recognize their descriptors – it’s very probably who you either like best, remember most positively from all your professors, or hopefully have partnered with, maybe even MARRIED!

Gen x is an unlikely piece of sanity in a string of madness called human civilization, we truly are here to document the fall of the west… I feel bad for gen y as they really did get messed up by their parents, but then again we all did in one way or another. Good luck to you all, may a large rock land on us and shorten the demise.

As a 42 year old Gen Xer (and damn proud of it), I don’t hate Gen Y unlike some of the above posters.

Gen Y is kind of in the same boat we are. They are the 2nd generation that will get F**** over by the monstrous, obnoxious Baby Booms.

Booms will be the last generation to ride off into the sunset with full Social Security, Medicare, full pensions. Us and Gen Y will get jack S**** when (if) we retire.
